2007 FMLA AGM a Great Success

More than 100 people attended the 2007 Annual General Meeting [AGM] of the Four Mile Lake Association [FMLA] on Sunday June, 24 at the Legion Hall in Coboconk. Guest speakers included the Mayor of the City of Kawartha Lakes[CoKL] Ric McGee and Ward 3 Councillor Dave Hodgson.

In his President's remarks, Brian Causton emphasized that the role of the FMLA is to provide a means to co ordinate the efforts of property owners on the lake and to present a unified voice on matters of concern. This was most evident this past year, with the preparation of the Association's submission of a Four Mile Lake Plan for inclusion within the new CoKL Official Plan. The OP will set the agenda and parameters for all development within CoKL in the coming years and the FMLA was the only lake association to make a submission in this regard.

Keynote speaker was Randy French, BES MCIP RPP [French Planning Services Inc., RR #2, 1016 Holiday Park Drive, Bracebridge, Ontario]

Mayor McGee said that municipalities like CoKL have shouldered the brunt of downloading costs by the province and are finding all their services stressed beyond the limit. He told the meeting that a new radio information ad campaign was being aired to make people aware of the dire situation downloading costs have caused.

At the 2007 AGM. Mayor Ric McGee spoke of the need to curtail provincial downloading.

Randy French made a presentation on the FMLA submission to the CoKL Official Plan proposal.

Councillor Hodgson said he supported-for the most part-the efforts of the FMLA to develop a lake plan to be included within the City's Official Plan. He also commented on the development of a shooting range at the south end of the lake and said the municipality's by-law and regulatory authorities would continue to monitor developments at the site for compliance to all rules and regulations.

Past FMLA President Vic Orr was once again recognized for his Environmental Hero of the Year Award and the ongoing yearly business of the Association was conducted in accordance with By-Law requirements.

The election of the FMLA Board for 2007-08 is detailed in the Contacts section of this website. Thanks to retiring Board Member Cliff Floyd for his help over the past several years. Thanks also to all those members who stood for re-election as well as our new recruits!!!

Have a GREAT SUMMER.
Brian Causton, President
