| HIGH-SPEED INTERNET OPTIONS FOR 4 MILE LAKE |
| Sign the Petition for 4ML High Speed! |
|
Xplornet has now completed the installation of the two (2) repeater towers on 4ML. Locations are on Birchglen Dr. (east side of Lake) and Griffin Dr. (west side of Lake). These towers will be "turned-on" within days, we are told. The visibility of these towers are expected to give most all of 4ML line-of-sight service. Over 150 4ML residents have given written
"expressions of interest" for highspeed internet, which is a huge
demonstration of local interest. SIGN THE LIST OF INTEREST FOR WIRELESS INTERNET SERVICE ON 4ML! Sign the Petition for 4ML High Speed! In order to ensure that Xplornet maintains 4ML as a priority for wireless high-speed internet service - they need to hear from you! /Jim |

July 27, 2008 UPDATE Not much progress by Xplornet, unfortunately. Over 140 4ML residents have given written "expressions of interest" for highspeed internet, which is a huge demonstration of local interest. Xplornet continues to advise that they are "working on the installation of 2 towers for 4ML"....but there has been no sign of site selection or towers. Rob Dlouhy of Kawartha Wireless (Fenelon Falls, 866-826-0194) remains extraordinarily helpful to all 4ML residents, and you can be comfortable contacting Rob with any of your personal installation questions or scheduled install. While it's discouraging for the 4ML residents to show so much interest and not see any progress of response by Xplornet, it is still best for you to continue your demonstration of interest to Xplornet. Xplornet still needs encouragement to make 4ML their priority for internet service. You can help by calling TAG (1-800-407-6419) or Xplornet (http://www.xplornet.com), and sign the list below. SIGN THE LIST OF INTEREST FOR WIRELESS INTERNET SERVICE ON 4ML! Sign the Petition for 4ML High Speed! We're into the summer now and in order to get high-speed internet service to 4ML for our summer residents, Xplornet must move quickly. Let them hear from you! /Jim Russell |

July 4, 2008 UPDATE Recent discussions with Xplornet confirm that they remain committed to the installation of 2 "repeater towers" on 4ML. This should help bring high-speed internet service to many of the residents on Four Mile Lake. They are aware that they have essentially no coverage of 4ML with their current system. However, there has been little progress toward the installation of the needed towers during the past 2 weeks, and they have no schedule for when they expect to complete the actions to bring service to 4ML. Xplornet needs encouragement to make 4ML their priority for internet service. You can help by calling TAG (1-800-407-6419) or Xplornet (http://www.xplornet.com), and sign the list below. June 28, 2008 UPDATE As a result of the dialog that Dave Hodgson and Ric McGee (CoKL) have had with TAG and my recent meeting with an Xplornet executive, Xplornet has advised that they will be installing 2 "repeater towers" on 4ML. This should help the serviceability of many of our 4ML residents. Xplornet seems very willing to understand our needs and desires for internet service, and learn the requirements of 4ML residents. The more "interest" that you show to Xplornet, the faster they can expedite the installation...so.... SIGN THE LIST OF INTEREST FOR WIRELESS INTERNET SERVICE ON 4ML! Sign the Petition for 4ML High Speed! More to follow... /Jim Russell =========================================================================== |

May 20, 2008 UPDATE
4ML
broadband Internet has arrived....well sort of...
Sign the Petition for 4ML High Speed! The 2 towers (one in Burnt River and one in Coboconk) intended to service 4ML went "live" this week. There are several new Xplornet installations in the town of Burnt River. Xplornet installers have just recently done some testing of the fixed-wireless signal at a few different parts of the lake. As we suspected, there are many "blind spots" around the lake that cannot "see" either of the towers presently. Your capability to get the signal required will depend greatly on your location and "line of sight" to one of the towers. Call one of the installers to check out your location. The service to all our 400+ residents around 4ML was not nearly as good as Xplornet expected. The important NEXT STEP by Xplornet is the installation of "repeaters" or "extender towers". These are smaller towers located very close to 4ML that can service the cottages located on the waterfront. Our challenge is to show Xplornet that there is great demand on 4ML so that they expedite the "extenders" and bring us all high-speed internet this summer. Send us your name if you'd like your name added to the "we want high speed internet now!" list....and we will make sure that Xplornet hears our call. Sign the Petition for 4ML High Speed! Lynda Rickard, Executive Director of Technology Alliance Group (TAG) is also meeting with Xplornet this week, and extenders is something that is on her agenda for discussion. She has committed to report back to FMLA as soon as she has some definite information. You can also contact Lynda to express your urgent desire for high speed internet and placement of "extenders" to service 4ML...Lynda Rickard, Executive Director of Technology Alliance Group (TAG), 189 Kent St. W., Suite 215, LINDSAY, ON K9V 5G6, 1-800-407-6419 Your Councillor Dave Hodgson is also working hard with CoKL to support the fixed-wireless service capabilities for all 4 Mile Lakers. Dave is making our needs very visible with TAG and CoKL. ===========================================================================Mar. 1, 2008 UPDATE

Formal updates are available as outlined at the Kawartha Lakes community partnership update area on their website...http://www.xplornet.com/partnership_kawartha.php The 4ML towers are expected as early as end-April, with anticipated live dates starting in early April thru May. Xplornet/Barrett
makes great progress with TAG We received following update from Lynda Rickard, Executive Director, Technology Alliance Group for Kawartha Lakes... Hi: Good to hear from
you again. We do still have your [FMLA] cottage association group on 4
mile lake in mind. We are planning two towers on either side of 4 mile
lake – one in Coboconk and one in Burnt River. By May 1st we will be
able to tell exactly where the entire system will and will not reach.
All of the towers will be built, and extenders will be set up where
necessary. Barrett is currently working ahead of our schedule and have 8
towers live at this time, so I am already seeing some positive results.
I’ll keep in touch, I have a number of the contact from 4 mile lake in
my data base as waiting for service, so I’ll be watching to see when the
towers are ready to try for those people. ============================================================== 4ML residents could be accessing
new broadband technology as early as next spring. [See News Article - click here for news article] I attended a public meeting hosted by Technology Alliance Group (TAG) with a special presentation by Ken Taylor of Barrett Xplore Inc... Xplornet will provide broadband (high-speed) internet services to all areas of CoKL in spring 2008. This project comes after much lobbying by users (like FMLA) and a CoKL Council approval of $550,000 funding. They also have received $243,000 grants by Fed and Provincial governments towards the $12 million project. Many thanks to Councillor Dave Hodgson for supporting and pressing our needs at CoKL for the project! Mr. Taylor explained two
access points to technology - fixed-point wireless and two-way
satellite. Xplornet has a regional distribution centre in Lindsay. About
78% of the city will be serviced by the fixed wireless option (cellular
towers) using 34 sites - 21 primary sites and 13 coverage extenders. The
majority of the sites will be completed by March 31, 2008. You can help by sending
your personal expression of interest in CELL BASED High Speed
connectivity [rather than two-way satellite internet which will be more
expensive] to Technical Alliance Group
lynne.taylor@tag4kl.org CANDLELIGHT UPDATE
- there have been some corporate & operational changes in the
CANDLELIGHT Internet services. The 4ML area will be serviced by Mike

cottagecountry.net/inquiry-form >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> A number of FMLA members have expressed interest in obtaining High Speed Internet service at the cottage. At the present time, there are two options you can pursue. SATELLITE-This
service is available through a leading provider as long as you have an
unobstructed view of the southwestern sky. The service involves the
installation of a dishtype antenna and modem which provides two
way-upload/download-service at up to 1.5 meg. speed. Several FMLA
members have this service already and generally comments have been good.
Nightsky A/V Services [nightskyavservices@gmail.com]
can arrange for an on-sight survey of your property for satellite
suitability and can also demonstrate the service to those who are
interested. Contact Dave as above or 705-454-9007 or 928-7051. CANDLELIGHT - This company in Kinmount/Haliburton area would be willing to put up a wireless tower(s) well hidden in a treed area to service FMLake and area if they can get between 25 and 35 subscribers. If you are interested please go to this website and fill out their online form; http://www.candlelight.ca/inquiry1.shtml This form is an expression of interest--not a commitment .The sooner they get 25-35 people interested the sooner they will put up a tower. They told us their service can be installed quickly but we must also keep in mind that this is their busiest season for installations. August, 2007 [The FMLA does not endorse either of these services specifically. All details are provided solely for member information].
