Mining Act Changes

Changes to the Mining Act were proposed (via Bill 173 draft) that could increase uranium mining in the Haliburton Highlands area and potentially affect our watershed.
In its submission to the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines this Spring, FMLA recommended changes to the draft bill in line with FOCA and other parties trying to restrict mining development in cottage and recreational areas in Ontario

An amended version of Bill 173 was passed on Oct 21, 2009. An announcement on the passage of the revised Act can be found at the MNDM website .

It appears that most of the revisions we were looking for made it into the final version of the Act, but we seen no comments yet from affected parties.
