We asked, you answered - 36 responses received. Here is a summary of all of the results:
1. Membership
The vast majority of respondents are current FMLA members, with many having been members for 15–30+ years, and several since the association was first established. Only one respondent indicated they were not currently a member.
2. What should FMLA focus on?
Members identified lake health and environmental protection as the Association's highest priorities.
Top priorities included:
Conservation & lake health (89%)
Environmental stewardship (58%)
Forest fire prevention (53%)
Maintaining a contingency/fighting fund (47%)
Social events & community building (47%)
Additional comments highlighted concerns around:
Septic system education and maintenance
Gravel pit impacts
Road maintenance
Protecting water quality
3. Activities members want to continue
Members strongly support continuing existing community events.
Most popular activities:
Annual BBQ (69%)
Music on the Lake (69%)
Canada Day Flotilla (56%)
Summit Wellness Centre support (56%)
Fishing Derby (50%)
4. New activities or initiatives
While many respondents were happy with current programming, several ideas emerged:
Suggestions included:
Golf tournament
Kids and family paddling/canoe races
ATV ride
Dog walking group
Bottle drive fundraiser
Fall community event
Fish stocking
Greater focus on lake education, water levels, shoreline protection and advocacy with local government
Several respondents emphasized that protecting the lake should remain the Association's primary focus.
5. Long-term investments
Respondents overwhelmingly want FMLA investing in the long-term health of Four Mile Lake.
Common themes included:
Lake conservation and stewardship
Water quality and invasive species management
Environmental education
Shoreline protection
Septic awareness
Fish stocking
Boat launch improvements
Water level management
Emergency preparedness and lake safety
6. Supporting surrounding communities
Members would like FMLA to continue strengthening relationships with nearby communities by:
Promoting local events
Supporting local businesses
Encouraging members to shop locally
Participating in community initiatives and volunteer opportunities
Continuing support for organizations such as the Summit Wellness Centre
7. Interest in joining the Board
83% are not interested in joining the Board.
17% expressed interest or provided additional comments.
Several respondents noted they had previously served on the Board and encouraged continued renewal through new volunteers.
8. Satisfaction with the Board
Most respondents have had little or no direct interaction with the Board.
Among those who have:
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
Members described the Board as responsive, helpful, and appreciative of the volunteer effort.
Some acknowledged that not every request results in action due to competing priorities.
9. Opportunities for improvement
Areas members would most like the Board to strengthen include:
Membership growth (31%)
Communication (25%)

Promotions (8%)
Additional suggestions included:
Increased lake stewardship and advocacy
Fish stocking initiatives
Greater enforcement and education around bylaws
Enhanced marketing and branding
Continued focus on growing membership
10. Membership
Nearly every respondent indicated they are already an FMLA member. Many commented that membership fees are very reasonable—and several suggested they would be willing to pay more if additional conservation and lake improvement initiatives were undertaken.
Overall Takeaways
Survey responses clearly indicate that members value the work the FMLA is doing and want the Association to continue balancing community events with a strong emphasis on protecting the long-term health of Four Mile Lake. Conservation, environmental stewardship, communication, membership growth, and advocacy emerged as the strongest themes throughout the survey.
